Last slide: What have we learned so far?

Global warming and -pollution is a problem which over the years will only increase in scale. Through the Green Education project, we want to contribute to the solution to this problem. The project centers around an interactive workshop which aims at raising environmental awareness among the young generation and empowering them to make a positive environmental impact. Important as well is to make students aware of the concept of ‘doing well by doing good’; acting environmentally friendly can often turn out to be economically beneficial! All in all, this assignment will learn the students to make environmentally sustainable personal and business decisions, how to present their idea and how to implement the green idea at their school.

The concept of Green Education has proven to be successful. Last year the workshops have been given at two schools, and in total more than 200 students have been reached. Students of these schools were divided in teams with competed with each other, striving for the best idea to make their school more green. One of the teams emerged as winner and won a sum of money which was used to have its idea executed. By placing water tap filters and sensors throughout their bathrooms, this idea saved the school over 70.000 liters of water.

For the upcoming year we have set the following goals and ambitions:
- Expanding nationally, crossing Rotterdam’s borders and implementing this concept in other cities in The Netherlands. By doing this we can make a truly large-scale environmental impact. In order to fulfill this ambition, we also strive for;
- Teaching students outside of SIFE to give the workshops. Potential students who can be reached for this purpose could e.g. be Pabo students, who are studying to become a teacher. For them giving workshops could be a great internship opportunity
